EXA signs for second ship
South Florida Business Journal
EXA International of Deerfield Beach (Nasdaq: EXAI) announced its wholly owned subsidiary, CruiseUnit Project, intends to charter or purchase the S.S. Rembrandt from DLJ Investment Fund. Terms were not disclosed.
The vessel was owned by Premier Cruise Lines and before that was Holland America's flag ship, Rotterdam, EXA said in a prepared statement.
Stanley Priskie, EXA's president, said the ship is 749 feet long with about 575 cabins. "This is the second ship that we have under contract for delivery in 2002, for our timeshare program to be marketed under the name of Cruiseshares," said Priskie. "The ship has recently had a cosmetic 'face lift' and will be delivered ready for sailing and have approval certificates from the Coast Guard and the U.S. Department of Health."
He said the company plans is to acquire up to five previously operated commercial cruise ships having a total of 1,500 cabins during the next several years.
